No nonpartisan youth voter mobilisation infrastructure sized for the first votes-at-16 election

What is missing

61.5 per cent of young people get political information mainly from social media, and participation is largely expressive: 73 per cent signed a petition or advocated online in the past year, per the John Smith Centre in 2026. The UK has no at-scale nonpartisan registration-and-turnout operation of the kind US youth turnout infrastructure provides. My Life My Say, Shout Out UK and the Electoral Commission's Welcome to Your Vote Week come closest, and they are small, grant-cycle-dependent and school-focused, which leaves out around a million NEET young people and college leavers who are hardest to reach. Party youth wings mobilise narrow slices and deepen the partisan gender divide.

Why it matters

The first general election with 16-year-old voters, due by 2029, is a one-shot habit-formation event for two entire cohorts. Online-native engagement without turnout infrastructure converts to cynicism, and partisan influencer ecosystems are filling the vacuum fastest.

What would fill it

An independently governed, transparently funded youth voter mobilisation platform: registration drives, creator partnerships, relational turnout tools, and colleges and workplaces as venues, built now by a philanthropic pooled fund under strict nonpartisanship rules.

// Build now: First artefact: pooled-fund-backed nonpartisan platform running registration drives, creator partnerships and relational turnout tools.

Why urgency 3

Two cohorts face a one-shot habit-forming first election served only by small grant-dependent providers, and the turnout vacuum is filling with partisan ecosystems now.
